Sofia Alvarez is a Partner in New York. She works with hospital systems and retailers on operations and large-scale transformation, two sectors that share more than they first appear to: frontline labor, variable demand and very little slack. She led the patient flow program that cut elective waiting times by more than a third across a five-hospital system.
Sofia joined Vertex in 2015 after four years in operations at a national pharmacy chain. She leads the firm’s healthcare work in North America and teaches a course on service operations at a New York business school.
